In this conversation, Christian speaks to Rob Greenfield. Rob sheds light on how his work as Founder of Earthtopia and Account Director at 33Seconds is positively impacting the environment through engaging storytelling and inspiring sustainable action.
The conversation focuses on how leaders and change makers develop their purpose, competencies, and community to create a positive impact. Rob Greenfield's journey into the environmental space started at university when he noticed the excessive waste and lack of recycling around his campus. This frustration led him to join a local environmental champions organization that helped students repurpose and recycle their belongings.
As he developed his passion for the environment, Rob continued volunteering with local organizations like the London Wildlife Trust, where he worked on habitat management and encouraged people to visit the natural park near Kings Cross Station. His passion for the environment led him to intern at Forum for the Future, an environmental consultancy, and eventually, he found his way to 33 Seconds, where he began working on eco-focused campaigns.
Three years ago, Rob and his team created Earthtopia to create positive and action-focused content on TikTok to engage young people in climate solutions. The show covers various eco-hacks, sustainable solutions, and environmental news to inspire and educate its 288,000 followers.
During the conversation, Rob discusses the challenges and successes of creating content on TikTok, including the importance of relatability and making environmental issues tangible for the audience. He emphasizes the need for collaboration, staying up-to-date with trends, and being nimble in their approach to producing effective and engaging content.
Rob talks about sustainable milk alternatives, where Rob and his team explore the sustainability of various plant-based milk options. Another significant issue they address is the impact of the fashion industry on the environment, highlighting the importance of buying secondhand to reduce waste and pollution.
Rob is passionate about collaborating with inspiring eco-creators and continuously learning from others in the field. He also shares advice for young people, encouraging them not to worry about finding their purpose early on and to explore various interests and industries to discover their passion.
